A circular medal constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse bears the left facing helmeted and laurel crowned portrait of a woman (as the personification of the French Republic), circumscribed with REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE (FRENCH REPUBLIC), the reverse bears a terrestrial globe on top of trophies of military conquest circumscribed with "MEDAILLE D'OUTRE MER" (OVERSEAS MEDAL), measuring 28. 78 mm (w) x 34.
